Welcome to yet another of my blogs. Am I not supposed to work on Herbal classes? Did I not say we're taking out Sweet Potatoes? Yes, Yes, and YES. But, as Life goes, does one exclude the other? Life is messy, and we do a lot of different things all at the same time.
As far as I'm concerned, learning never stops, neither does my sharing with people about what matters and what they might need from me. In time, probably soon I will also make yet another companion blog to this page because not everyone is on Facebook. We were not until recently.
This page is about Homeschooling. I have been the cause for several mothers to homeschool, and in every single case, everyone is sooo much happier for it.
I know it worked for us, and even though I had my doubts about how I was doing things many, many times, I now have the luxury of Hindsight. My oldest is in college and I am very proud to say, doing very, very well. I have been able to relax a little more with my second child, now sixteen. I have also learned and figured out a lot of things that nobody could or would share with me. Of course, times have changed drastically since I first started with my oldest. Homeschooling was not new anymore, but it was far from common. There was no material at Barnes and Noble or any regular bookstore. Curriculums were available, but I never could find one that fit, or that I was able to spend all that money on...turns out, it isn't necessary. Things like that, I often share in the many, many conversations with parents who are curious about homeschooling. Many want to do it, but don't know where to start, what to use, are they qualified, smart enough, have time enough and many, many questions of this nature.
I want to share our journey here, and address some of those things, as well as what we are doing now, and how.
Of course, whatever we did, and do, is only one way of doing things that happened to work for us. And even there, I quickly learned that my two children are very different in their learning, and what worked for one, did not for the other. THIS is what it is about. You tailoring your homeschool to your child...each and every one. Your unique personalities, learning styles, lifestyles and everything else. You make it fit and that can be a journey in itself, but one so worth taking. So sit with me a bit, and feel free to ask questions, ideally talk to each other, once we are a group.
And no, not every day will be easy or fun or even productive. Some will be very challenging and make you feel like a total failure. But far more often it will be incredible, exhilarating and magical. And that feeling, when, after you thought they will never "get" something, they use that knowledge against you, and you know they did learn it after all.
And when you explain something and they "already know"...when you find that they have some secret file storage where they just absorb things you said, lived, showed them. When you find out that important things stuck, even when you didn't formally teach them. That they do pay attention, even when it does not seem like it. There is no reward like it.
And no, don't wait until a "perfect time." There is only one perfect time and that is "now." If you think homeschooling might be for you, Do it. It is.
